You're an athlete. Deal with it. Sports don't just test your body, they test your ability to get along with other people. There will be people like this all of your life, don't trip over emotional crap, just stay focused and you will be fine. It can't all be fun and games, or everyone would be doing it, right?

Kind of sounds like you have made up your mind already. If volleyball is truely your thing, then don't give it up because of someone else. Especially being a sophmore, you have a few more years to play. Volleyball season is only a few months long and the ones that are causing the trouble will probably be gone after that (assuming they are seniors and juniors). Don't quit the team and ruin the rest of your time at high school, if you truely love the game. It is hard to quit a team and then go back the next year, because the coach and team will always look at you as a quitter and not trust you as much.
Good luck!

I'd say it depends on if you want to play on a team or not. If you love volleyball a lot, but don't like the atmosphere of the school team, perhaps you can join a beach club or something that does volleyball tournaments, or a YMCA if any of that's an option? Maybe the environment would be different than the school team but I guess it depends more on the people, not exactly what team you are playing for. I would say if you love it so much, find an alternative way to play (like what I mentioned earlier.) You're obviously not having any fun with the team you're on now, which will probably eventually make you hate the sport due to lack of team spirit. Hope this helps!

I was also a sophomore on the varsity team when I was in high school. I didn't care for it much my either that year. Although competitiveness is a big part of the game, it doesn't have to completely take over. If you truely love the sport, stay with it. I promise that things will get better, especially once you get into your junior and senior years. I believe that if you quit now, you'll regret it later. You play your game, give %100, and that's all that you can do. Be a leader and people will notice.

First, have you talked to your coach(es) about any of your concerns? (Or are they the ones pushing you to win at any cost?)
Since you love the sport so much (and must be good at it if you're varsity as a sophomore!), I think it'd be a shame for you to walk away from the game.
Can you "tough it out" and stay, trying to change team attitudes and create a cohesive team spirit by example and positive suggestions? Are there any other like-minded players or do you stand absolutely alone?
In any case, I don't think it's right or fair to the team to walk out ON a game day. If you are 100 percent sure you cannot continue in this atmosphere (i.e. you have already talked to others about your feelings and they've ignored or pooh-poohed them), then turn in your uniform AFTER the scheduled game.
Then find a local, community center, church or some other source volleyball team and PLAY, PLAY, PLAY.
Good luck!

Okay. Here's what you do. Go someplace alone where you can be quiet. Take some deep breaths. Relax. When you start to feel really relaxed and calm (keep breathing) Imagine two signs. One says Quit, the other says Play. Okay. Imagine yourself picking up the Quit sign. How big is it? What color? What is it made out of? Visualize it in the most detail you can. How does it smell? How does it taste? Now pick up the Play sign and imagine everything you can about it. With both signs get all the details. How heavy is it? Rough or smooth? Warm or cold? Okay. Now after you have thoroughly examined both signs in your imagination decide which one you like better. That will probably give you a good idea of whether quitting or playing is the right choice for you.

Well, you can't quit the day of a big game. You made a commitment and you need to follow through. You sound like a competitior...not a quitter. Play tough tomorrow and take out your aggression on the ball!
Make an appoint ment with your coach and unload. I have a funny feeling that your coach knows something is up anyway. I'm sure you will come up with some plan of action to get through the season on a "up" note.
As soon as your HS season is over, go play Club and have riot.

I'm a volleyball player also, and i am among other people who frustrate me constantly because some of them haven't played before. If you really love it, i think you should stick with it. Yeah, theres a load of people out there complaining about wanting to be a team but never act on it, but you can be the one to change that. I hope you make the right decision. :p

You serious??? That's exactly what I went through.... we did great in practices but some damn girls started getting their attitudes and it was negative crap in the court during the games... I couldn't stand how everyone was doing and how they dislike the captain. So, I quit. I don't want to be called a quitter but I rather do that than to be around bullshitters. Do what you think it's best and you might find a better place to play in with better teammates. Good luck. =)

i think that u should sit down and talk with you team coach. maby you should have the cheerleaders come in and teach you how to play volleyball(lol) but seriously if you love the sport then stick with it. maby you should get a community thing together and start another volleyball team. think about other options, just don't quit cuz in the end you'll regret it!

Wow, what a tough decision!
But here's what I think...if you stay with that team too long, you will begin to hate the thing that you love.
Is there anyway you can get a group of friends together once a week or more to play a casual game? If something makes you unhappy, you shouldn't do it.
Good luck.
