Nikki, SVT & Josh are correct, if the overdrive cancel indicator is flashing, it means you transmission DTCs (diagnostic trouble codes). Take it to the dealer, and have them perform an EEC test on it to find out what the cause is before you do further damage to your transmission by driving it as it is.

FORD has had a major problem with there wiring on their vehicles from 1980 till present. I have had or know of several FORD products that have many wiring problems. I had a 1997 ford explorer that would turn the 4x4 light on doing 65-70 mph on a dry highway, note the light was on but truck was not in 4x4. sometimes all of the gauges would quit. hence they are all electronic. Most of the time they would recomend knew wiring harnesses. when yours is flashing does the rpm's change at all if not probably nothing to worry about just be a mental thing, but if they do then I would reccomend getting it in as soon as possible. Wiring harnesses are pretty expensive, might be easier just selling it.

I am not a Ford person, but on my Nissan Sentra, there is a button on the side of the shifter that releases your transmission out of O/D. I have accidently released it before. This could be the problem in your case.

If it is flashing then something is wrong with the transmission. Have a certified mechanic to look into the codes set by this.

There should be a switch on the turn signal lever or somewhere to turn it back on and start saving on gas again.

There should be a button somewhere, perhaps it is in your shifter, if it is on the steering column. It probably just got bumped.
