My ideas? Try to do 200 minutes of cardio a week. Remember fat does not turn into muscle, so you need to lose your fat while putting on muscle. Work hard, but don't over 60 minutes at a time. Do planks and other abs exercises on alternate days.

On training days, do 5-10 minutes of cardio to warm up, then do your weight training. Do 30 to 60 minutes more of cardio, then go home.

The best time to eat is just after your workout within an hour when your metabolism is raging. For your muscles, incorporate some isolated soy protein or whey protein. Whey is more potent but the soy tastes better!

Don't look at your scale as the be all and end all, but get a measuring tape to check your progress, and that will show more tangible results.

Read magazines like Shape, Womens Fitness, Fitness, etc to get tips and to stay motivated.

Good luck and stick at it. This plan has lost me 20 lbs in 12 weeks so far, just go for it!

I've had great success with Weight Watchers Core program. No counting points, very easy. Low fat, low carb, seemed to take weight off my middle really well, and feel good. I eat like a horse...like Flicka...apples, carrots, oats...plus low fat meats, etc, all fruits. The more (good stuff) I eat, the more fat I lose.

And I feel so much more energetic having lost weight in my thighs. It made a big difference when I was staying in a friend's 3rd floor walkup while on vacation!

Good luck!

I've tried WW in the past a lot, but this is the first program I could live with. I am 53 and haven't been this weight since Junior High! It's GREAT. Good luck!

WOO HOO! You are ME 30 lbs ago! I started the Cambridge Food For Life diet after I was placed on blood pressure meds, couldn't keep up with my toddler and was about to be placed on cholesterol meds. I started the Fast Start variation of the Cambridge Food For Life Diet (see "The Diet" on website below) and lost 17 lbs in the first 3 weeks. I found the energy to begin exercising again and feel soooooooooo much better. I was able to stop all medications after the first 2 weeks and my doctor was so pleased she said she's going to start recommending this diet to all of her overweight patients. It's very healthy too because your body receives 100% of it daily nutrition. With your high blood pressure I wouldn't recommend starting a diet without your physician's knowledge, however, my website below has great info and if you decide you're interested just email me or call the toll free number listed on the site and I'd be happy to send you a copy of the Physician's Data to share with your doctor. I just posted my Before and After photos so feel free to browse the site and see what you think. Many who do this diet keep the weight off as well because it emphasizes behavior modification.
Best of luck in whatever you decide! There are many diets out there, this is just what worked best for me.

Try getting full medical examine. Then, ask your doctor to refer you to a dietitian. Ask the dietitian to recommend a diet to help you lose weight and help increase your energy level. That's the safest thing to do. High blood pressure can be helped greatly by losing weight and proper diet but... how's your heart? You may not be physically fit to engage in a strenuous weight training regimen, which is really the best way of losing weight (accompanies by diet).

Speak with your doctor and ask if you're fit enough to engage in light weight training and if so, join a gym with a licensed trainer.

I've heard people say, "I can't afford that..." but my question is, "Can you afford to die?" They spend money on junk food and soft drinks and beer but won't spend a dollar toward regaining wellness... duhhh!

First, I hope you have your blood pressure under control. Then, the best way to lose weight is to eat lots of fruit and vegetables, some lean protein, some whole grains, some fat free dairy, six glasses of water and exercise.
