I got a nice new laptop about nine months ago, been using it, works great. I do download a lot of stuff off the internet, but I am trying to keep my "baby" working well, and not mess it up like my other comp.
So what is the best Security program or suite you would recommend, one that includes pop-up blocker, VIRUS SCAN, firewall, etc.
I am willing to fork over some cash, so give me info on BOTH free and not-free suites or programs. And also tell me the details of programs written by licensed companies, something i would get at best buy or Comp-USA or something.
I need help, and i am focusing on good anit-virus and anti-spyware
Thanks

If money were no object, I would "roll my own". Most security "suites" are made by one company that specialises in one particalur aspect of computer security only. It's best to mix and match, IMHO.

My picks:
1. Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 (excellent virus detection rates and extremly lite in resourse usage)
http://usa.kaspersky.com/products/anti-virus.php

2. ZoneAlarm Pro Firewall
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/catalog/products/sku_list_zap.jsp?dc=12bms&ctry=US&lang=en&lid=ho_zap

3. Webroot SpySweeper (both a scanner and real-time protection)
http://www.webroot.com/

4. Ewido (excellent detecting and removing trojans) Don't buy the paid version, you will already have real-time protection with SpySweeper. Free!
http://www.ewido.com

5. Windows XP built-in pop-up blocker already better than most.

The best firewall I know is ZONE ALARM (Free edition).
The best antivirus I know is ANTIVIR (Personal Edition).

The advantages of these two to other is: VERY SIMPLE TO USE.

Frankly, I don't install any pop-up blocker, as I rely on browser (Firefox and IE) to block pop-ups. And just close the window (press X above-right) when windows pop-ups from porn websites).

I've been using these two for more than 6 years now...

actual, if vista remains in beta, i does no longer be according to it....enable them to paintings out the themes, first. additionally, not one of the Antivirus, firewall, spyware issues presently are helping it completely so which you have compatibility issues.....yet once you insist, try Norton information superhighway protection.
