The Stumpy-Tail Cattle Dog(also known as the Smithfield Heeler) looks a lot like Australian Cattle Dogs, with their naturally short tail. Their tails are not docked. The pups are born with tiny stumpy tails which, according to the standard, are not to exceed 4 inches when fully grown.
The absence of tails in working dogs goes back centuries in Britain, where a farmer or drover was exempted from paying taxes on his working dogs if they had docked tails. The system was abandoned in 1796 because many other dogs had their tails docked to avoid the tax.

Austrailian Sheps have a tail, it is just a naturally docked tail. While a lot of breeds (boxers, rotties, yorkies) have their tails docked after birth...your dog just has a natural little tail. I am sorry I do not know all the breeds that have naturally docked tails. If you know a particular breed you are interested in you can look them up that way. Everyydog is born with some kind of tail, unless there is a genetic issue going on. Feel around on your dog, I bet you will find a small little tail back there under the hair.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://tinyurl.im/9m2W8

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Nearly all the breeds I have seen so far are born with at least a stumpy tail. Some breeds tend to be very short tailed:

schipperke
http://www.5stardog.com/dog-breeds-schipperke.asp (If a pup is born with a tail it is docked for appearance.)

Cairn Terriers
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=3693030&dopt=Abstract

Aussies (If a pup is born with a tail it is docked for appearance.)

Vastly more are docked.
Tail docking is common practice with more than 50 breeds of dog, including poodles, yorkshire terriers, Jack Russells and cocker spaniels. Around 48 hours after birth, the tail is either sliced off with a scalpel or banded, which stops the supply of blood and causes it to fall off after about three days. No anaesthetic is used. Tail docking of dogs by a vet is perfectly legal - for now.

Given that most dogs never hunt or enter Crufts, why is docking so widespread? Milne says that some of her clients are unaware that their dogs had tails in the first place; many people assume that certain breeds just come that way. On the whole, it's breeders who keep the practice going, but anyone who wants a dog with a tail can simply ask the breeder to leave it on.
