Has anyone ever heard about taking plain subflooring screwing it down in squares and painting it or putting a gloss over it? If so...give me some pointers please!

I have no idea what you believe "PLAIN" means, and perhaps you don't either,,,or you haven't explained that you're talking about finishing sub flooring without adding anything on top of it???

My question back is WHY???

What possible aesthetic value could subflooring alone, have in any home?

It might be acceptable in a yard building, or warehouse type situation, and GADS, I'd never advise PAINTING a floor?

If you aren't concerned with aesthetics, and if you're on a slab, why not just finish the concrete with industrial finishes, such as one finds in a warehouse?

Rev. Steve has a narrow minded view point that everyone should believe as he does. Yes I have heard of this and have done it! We used multi colors that were complimentary of each other and random sizes, this gives it a nice modern look. The same siz and random colors gives it a rustic look. Feel the wide seams with interior/exterior Elmer's wood putty, sand until smooth and coat thick with floor poly. It is a dirty job but is rewarding. Good Luck and have fun

yes you can do it and i have seen it done, but going back to the home a year later for service work i was told by the homeowner the biggest proboblem they faced was , as the house settled and shifted the sub floor became uneven and developed gaps between the sections . so if your house is old and done settling and if you have a mild year rounc climate ..go for it ...otherwise be very aware of the issues you may face.
