I am Muslim and infact very critical of these Sunni and Shias who are the main sectarian factions of Islam. Pope intentionally instiated this hatred with that absurd quote which had not revelent to his speech. New York Times editorial has pointed out that this is not the first time he is spreading hatred against Muslims.

Not that long ago, severly and mockingly critizing Christianity would have earned you torture and/or death. In some cases, just being the *wrong kind* of Christian was sufficient--there was a time when Catholics killed Protestants and Protestants killed Catholics. (In Northern Ireland, that sort of thing happened very recently.)
Heck, there was a time when the typical Muslim was more tolerant than typical Christian. While it was not ideal to be an non-Muslim in Spain when the Moors had conquered the country, it was far worse to be a non-Christian during the Spanish Inquisition.
If you want your answer, look for political, not religious reasons. There's no organization in the world--including religions--that cannot be cruel and unreasonable if it is run by cruel and unreasonable people.

why not?
I want to criticize all religion. Humanity should be without it by now. Why do we hang on still to those frustrations I don't know. I personally don't practice any; left that with my teens. And I am a very happy person. See, we have two gods: the one that we have created; judgmental and creepy and we have the one that is creating us lovingly within each and every one of us.
I think that all religion or ideology should be debated and criticized. It is healthy and it does clear a lot of hot air.

It's not right to critisize any religion. There is more to Islam than just the violence. However, if you were being put down everyday, told you were wrong, and that you were nothing but animals, wouldn't you lash out as well?

Wow what a question. I watched as the answers came in, very slow start. I guess everyone was thinking. I guess I feel the minority's (religions, races, sexes) should be given some slack. If the Catholic church can't take it TS; if the republicans and democrats can't take it TS. I think Islam is big enough, if they can't take it TS.

Good point! I was angry when I heard that the pope had insulted Islam, but I was even angrier when I heard how some Muslims are reacting. Killing a nun was just a stupid and pointless thing to do. I understand why Muslims are angry, but I don't understand why some are going to the extreme of killing innocent people.

Now it is time for us all to grow up, for it only convinces the educated of our own insecurity the more we hark on about Islamic insecurity. All human endeavours should be open to reasoned criticism and no educated Muslim would disagree with this, however, there is the obvious dangers that come along with being over-critical of anything.

Out of plain Respect for others, we should not criticize any religions. God does not want us to do this. If we all have Respect, there wouldn't be all this trouble. We need to Love each other, but at this point there is too much hate. When the people in the Middle East do not want to have Peace then they will continue to loose the innocent people of their country. We and They need to STOP IT NOW !

It is the nature of religions to fail to coexist. I think more and more people would just like to get the impending war over with. It will be interesting to see where this non aligned group of nations will come down in the war.

Islam is a systematic approach to hate and murder using spiritual justification. It is based on lies and they do not worship the same god as christians. Christians worship a god of Love - Jesus. Islamic believe Jesus was "only just a prophet" and therefore do not believe in him we believe he is God. The bible shows us this. Also christians are to love thier enemies but islam is to kill them -
