Love is tolerating what you would otherwise avoid.
If you do not love your family, avoid them. You can make your own family and probably do better. I know people who have.
If you do love your family, it doesn't matter so much if they drive you so insane you want to axe-murder them regularly. It is a bummer, but at least you have love and forgiveness in your heart, neh?

Accept them and take the bad with the good unless having them in your life does more harm than good because they make you feel really bad about yourself. Nobody is perfect - annoying and self righteous doesn't sound too bad so just laugh inside when they act that way.

Learn to accept them, warts and all.
Also learn to accept that they will not always agree with your choices or support your decisions; nor will you always accept theirs.
My mother always said, "Family is family, and family loves you no matter what stupid thing you've done. They won't let you forget it, but they'll still love you." :-)
I've been through failed relationships, failed careers, personal blunders and downright terrible choices- though all has come and gone, my family remains... to remind me of all of those failed relationships, failed careers, personal blunders and terrible choices. And I remind them of theirs. It's odd how humorous ones personal tragedies seem when recounting them with perfect hindsight among siblings, cousins, parents and other family members over a big family dinner.
I hope that you and your family learn to value each other! There was a time that I felt the same way that you do.
Learning to accept my somewhat warped family's imperfections taught me to better accept my own.

I just love the line from "Ray Charles" every man, or everyone is entitled to their opinion, and drop it there. When he says that, it just knocks me over, like it's no big deal at all. Everything is just fine. I'm not bitting. And he never gets into giving his opinion or response, or anything else. It just drops right on the spot.

Try to find some down to earth friends! But don't close the door completely on your family.

Move out as soon as you can!
It is much easier to get along with family when you don't live with them (in my experience).
