Frontline is the best to get rid of fleas and its waterproof. Go to your vets and/or a local pet store to get it. Also, you need to kill the fleas in and outside your house. Bomb the inside and get a product from the pet store that will treat the lawn.

DO NOT give your dog pills for fleas... this means the flea has to bite the dog and it only sterilizes them doesnt kill them. Frontline is gentle on the dog and harsh on the fleas. It kills the fleas before they get a chance to lay eggs or bite.

I would take your dog to the vet to have a flea dip if its severe and have them apply frontline while he is there. If its not severe buy flea shampoo at the pet store. After that initial bath if you keep frontline on the dog you shouldnt have to give him flea baths very often.

An immediate solution is Zodiac flea spray... start around the base of the neck and work down and toward the back of the dog. Then go to ebay and buy frontline at around $8 per does which is half of what you'll spend in the vets office... just make sure you don't purchase the fake stuff from Asia.

Place some vinegar in their drinking water, or give the animal a bath using either flea soap or flea shampoo. Must shampoo them more than once to kill the eggs and the fleas do seem worse shortly after the bath but this only lasts for a short time.

PLease, please whatever you do, do NOT use Frontline..It's highly toxic,I don't care what others are telling you here. IT has caused many long term illnesses and even some deaths. Your vet will tell you it's fine, because they refuse to accept the fact that it is highly toxic, even though they do know this to be fact.
Here is a great Homeopathic recipe:
10 Drops of Lavender
10 Drops of Tea Tree Oil
10 Drops of Rosemary
Mix that into 16-24 Oz of distilled water, shake well and spray it on the dog.
Warning:Do not use Tea Tree on young pups or on any cats at all. It will be toxic to them.
I've used it and it works.
Now you have to treat all areas of inside your house. Check the Homeopathic sites for a house spray, they have quite a few.
Also treat the animals sleeping area and bedding.
Good Luck :)

Not sure how the spelling is on this but its a herbal medicine called Pennie royal. I never thought it would work but it does. When you grow it make sure you have plenty of space cause it spreads. Rub on the dog all over, and if out side dog throw some in dog house. If in house rub on bedding area and clean house well to be rid of all fleas.

I have always used Frontline on my dog, it is perfectly safe and works effectively. How it works: once applied it stays in the fatty layer of skin, when the fleas bite your dog, the fleas die within 24 hours. Good Luck
