I feel your pain. I am a single mom raising to boys on my own. I had to literily FIGHT to get help with food stamps. I have worked since before I got pregnant, was AT work when I went into labor, and was back to work four weeks after birth. With day care and gas prices, I couldn't afford food with my salery.

I would petition the housing department until they helped you! Keep calling and "pestering" them until they give you the appropriate answer...which is...WE WILL HELP YOU!!!!

I had a friend just like that. She had children by all different men and one ended up being a guy in prison--paternity test. They are different races too and have different fathers, except for two. Plus she had miscarriages and one abortion. She was a thief and just had a bad way of getting things. I feel sorry for her, yet she knew better after the first child was born. She did not take birth control and then when she got old enough, she would not work and her last boyfriend would not either. She quit school very young because all the girls were giving her a hard time for messing around with their boyfriends. Her mom and her moved to my town, and she still would not go to school. She was not home schooled and I don't know how she got away with that. She is a very bright girl in most ways and could have had a good career, if she had tried for that. I don't think it was all of her fault. Her mom allowed her to run around with friends and older people at a really young age. She should have been put in foster care. After she did some cruel things to me, I no longer was her friend. I helped her out for years and then I realized that she was just using me to meet guys or to ride around or to get gifts for her kids. I still think of her sometimes and wish her well.

Don't be angry! What you have is YOURS, and gotten honestly and with hard work! What's more, your kids are more resourceful, smarter, and more savvy than what she can teach hers. They are losers from the start, and will have a hard time adjusting to a world that doesn't reward sitting around waiting for a check.

I had to pay for everything! Even my daughter's college education, I paid $40,000 a year for an Ivy League degree for her!!! Everybody else seemed to be getting money from everywhere--but not me!

But now she's in med school and doing extremely well. She made lots of contacts in undergrad school, and is popular and accomplished. All the hard work--she volunteered and found her own jobs as a teen, no 'programs' or other 'help' was available--has paid off.

Be proud of who you are--I'm proud of you!

I can understand how you feel. It's not fair, the way the society is operating now. It seems to reward people who don't work and sponge off others who work so hard. Don't get angry with this particular woman but see if you can do something to change the welfare state. A lot of hardworking tax-paying people will support this.

That's the way things work. I can be in line at the grocery store counting out change to buy baby food and the person in line in front of me is in brand new designer clothes paying with food stamps & then load their groceries into their brand new SUV while I'm getting in my run down 16yo car!
Hard working people don't get any breaks in life.

i dont think they are really happy with 6 kids running about their brand new front room, neither are they able to enjoy investing in all their kids and watching them grow up to be successfull

the day u start worrying about how other people , who are clearly different calibre from you, live is the day you forget about how you should live and its all haywire from there

Its frustrating but you must put your energy into your own lives.

worrying about what other people have got will only depress you spend the energy you use on those thoughts on moving yourselves into a better situation.
