I have tight curls, because of my African American heritage. I was wondering if I chemically relaxed my hair, about how long would it be?

The only reason why I straighten my hair is because if I dont I get an afro, and I dont really want that. Right now I have braids in, which helped my natural hair grow out a lot.

Would 8 inches be about chin level?
