I was recently watching a program on CNN about genius kids and how much brain power they have, etc., etc. It made me want to... better my mind, for lack of better words. Are there any exericses to help me increase my brain power, or are some people just born with it? If so I'd appreciate links.

ALSO, if anyone could reccomend books on the subject or books explaining how to increase brain power, That would be a great help. Thanks in advance!

1. Read. What? Everything. From cereal boxes to nuclear physics. Start with the easier subjects and build confidence in yourself.

2. Stop watching American Idol and reality tv. If you must watch TV, try the Discovery Channel or History Channel or even (gasp) Public TV. Jeopardy is good, too. Millionaire is OK. There is something on called 'Cash Cab'. A cab drives around NYC and the driver picks up customers and asks them questions. Good show.

3. Go to school. If you don't have a HS diploma, get a GED. If you don't have college, go to a community college and pick up some courses or go to adult education classes in your town.

4. Do you work? If so, study the history of your industry or occupation. It might even help you get a promotion or raise.

Your respondents are correct in saying that if you want to increase your brain power you must use it. In this way the brain is like a muscle: it gets stronger the more you use it. Unlike a muscle though, you can train specific parts of it like the language part, or the math part, simply by using that part of it. The worst thing you can do for your brain is to watch TV.

Logic puzzles
The Einstein Puzzle
Supposedly, Albert Einstein wrote this riddle, and said 98% of the world could not solve it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are 5 houses in 5 different colors. In each house lives a man with a different nationality. The 5 owners drink a certain type of beverage, smoke a certain brand of cigar, and keep a certain pet. No owners have the same pet, smoke the same brand of cigar or drink the same beverage.

The question is: "Who owns the fish?"

Hints:

The Brit lives in the red house.
The Swede keeps dogs as pets.
The Dane drinks tea.
The green house is on the left of the white house.
The green house's owner drinks coffee.
The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.
The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhill.
The man living in the center house drinks milk.
The Norwegian lives in the first house.
The man who smokes Blends lives next to the one who keeps cats.
The man who keeps the horse lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill.
The owner who smokes Bluemasters drinks beer.
The German smokes Prince.
The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.
The man who smokes Blends has a neighbor who drinks water.
