Recruit Training is done at Great Lakes naval station and is for 8 weeks, give or take a week. there is no leave authorized between boot camp and A school. A school can be as short a week to as long as 2 years. the only breaks authorized during Schooling) a dn C school) is during the two week holiday standdown between Christmas and New year's. Otherwise, no leave will be granted, unless it is emergency leave.
you may take up to 30 days leave before reporting to your first duty station after graduating school.

The standard basic training for non-combat personnel (more or less the same in all branches of the military) is 9 weeks.
The first week is paper pushing, you spend six days filing forms, getting fitted for uniforms, security briefings, insurance, medical, etc. Day 7 is to get your transitional barracks back in the pristine condition that you found them. In the Army we called this our first "GI Party."
The next day you are sent to your basic training unit, and all hell breaks loose.
Notice I said non-combat. In the Army combat specialties have a longer basic training because it includes part of the training for their combat branch. I imagine the Marines do something similar.
You won't have a chance to come home unless your training runs over Christmas and your unit qualifies for exodus. Exodus is when all of the Army trainees leave for Christmas at the same time. If you leave training for any other reason (say somebody in your close family dies) you will get pushed back in your training.
As a norm don't expect to come home unless it is either Christmas or you are finished with your advanced training and you are authorized leave enroute to your new unit.

Are you thinking about joining? Or is some guy trying to pull the line that he may be shipped immediately into combat, and may never see you again (that line worked in WWII, but doesn't anymore!!)?
It is indeed 8 weeks. There is no leave allowed between basic training and school. There is a good FAQ section on the website below.
If you are thinking about joining, don't forget to check out the Air Force too!!

Every one pretty much gets to go through a boot camp or a boot camp type program. Whether or not you get to come home will depend on if you are going to to tech school and when the date of the classes start. so a trip home may not be possible.

Well Navy boot-camp is a lil longer than 8 weeks, but yes after you finish, you will be allowed to go home, depending on your next command.... unless its a tech school starting immediately, or your command is forward deployed.

The army as quickly as placed the GED on the comparable point as a severe college degree. perhaps issues have replaced. I see no reason a guy or woman desires college credit to connect the army as an enlisted guy or woman. ought to you have misunderstood the recuiter? i think of you ought to do a seek online and discover out what the standards are for growing to be a member of the army. stable luck!

Yes all military go to basic training. Some branches let you come home after Basic, some do not till after tech school. The length of Basic caries by branch of service.
Each of the branches have excellent sites that describe in detail their respective basic training.
