The reason is simple: in the case of addition, you have one apple, and you add another apple; you get two apples.

In the case of mutiplcation, you giving the value (in this case 1), and multiplying itself one time.

Another difference is if you have one wire and you add another wire, you have two wires.

In multiptication, if you have one wire and you double the strength of that wire by itself. You still have the same wire; only it's twice as strong.


This would be the difference between multiplication and addition.

Note: 1 and 0 are the only numbers that share these properties

Number "x" times 0 = always remains as 0
Number "x" times 1 = always remains as Number "x"

Because 1, one = one.

Just like 2, twos = four

If you have one apple and you add one more apple, you have two apples. That's how addition works.

If you have one box of apples with one apple in every box, you have only one apple. That's how multiplication works.
