when i do roast in the crock pot, i always start out with a frozen roast. i put baby carrots and onion in the bottom of the crock pot, place the frozen roast on top of the carrots. then add 6 - 8 cans of beef broth. i then cook the roast for about 12 hours on low. if you like your roast falling apart tender, this is the best way to do it. after the roast is done, remove the roast and carrots, and then use cornstarch and water to make gravy. delicious and oh so easy.

It can at times be dangerous to put frozen poultry in a crockpot. The time it takes to raise the temperature to above 165ºF can take too long which allows bacteria to multiply to an unsafe level. Although the bacteria will be killed by the tempurature when it does climb above 165º, when the bacteria multiplies, it produces neurotoxins as a byproduct. These neurotoxins are not destroyed by heat.
So I would strongly advise against placing frozen poultry into a crockpot and instead opt for thawing it properly in the refrigerator first.
Whole cuts of beef & pork, as opposed to ground, are relatively safe, but I would still add boiling water, instead of cold water. Ground meats, I would also thaw in the refrigerator first, due to them having higher levels of bacteria than whole cuts.

Yes, I do all the time. For example, a frozen roast and some tomatoes and juice and seasonings, or a roast with Au Jus gravy, or a frozen whole chicken (I take the guts out when I get it home from the store, season it and pop it in the freezer for later.)I add chicken broth and veggies. I haven't done it with ground beef, but I don't eat that much ground beef. I have used frozen Italian sausage with a jar of Spaghetti sauce.

yes you can but a crock pot is a slow cooker and it will take along time to cook the meat if it is frozen its reallly better is you defrost first

Absolutely! I would start with the meat and seasoned water to help defrost it, then once looking more cooked and smelling yummy, add the veggies, frozen or fresh. Check the internal temp to make sure at your desired choice of done.

Let it thaw out first. Either leave it out for 10-15 min or microwave it for 2
