Weekly? No... traffic is bad enough in most urban areas.... Take the money for that and further develop public transportation!
Yearly would be more reasonable. If the vehicle fails, force the owner to make the necessary repairs or pull the car off the road (like Drive Clean in Ontario, Canada - but more frequent and for all cars).

Oh god please NO. Yearly maybe but that's just wrong. Should I sue hustler magazine for getting Carpal tunnel syndrome. The law is getting weird now and it ticks me off. You are no longer Innocent till proven guilty.Other wise they wouldn't be able to hold you in jail till your court date. And the constitution is getting raped and will probably get revised too. Nomore have the right to bare arms. They make laws now to cancel out the laws from before so if you ever go to court you will almost always be found guilty. Polution laws are good, but random is screwed up. If you! and I mean the person who asked the question had a check engine light that just came on 1 day ago and you get lucky enough to run into one of these stops and they find your oxygen sensor is bad. Then you should go to jail for wishing such stupid laws.

My Dad does part time emissions testing on weekends at the shop he works at during the week. He asks if you would like the traffic nightmare your suggestion would entail. Once every two years is fine.

jail term for a faulty car? let me guess, your republican?
you should be jailed for suggesting it. isnt there enough people in our overcrowded prisons for stupid offenses for you?
no there shouldnt be weekly tests, who's going to pay for them? the tax payers. most cars that have problems like that dont run for very long anyway.
please do us a favor and dont go into politics, or breeding.

The emmissions focus needs to switch from cars to the real polluters: semi-tractor trailers imo.
