Many of the fast-food items available are very high in fat and low in fiber and other nutrients. They also tend to be quite high in sodium.

Eating such foods often, over the course of a lifetime, will shorten your life and probably be the cause of your death due to heart disease (and depending on genetic predisposition.)

Having a few fast-food items now and then can easily be balanced by a healthy diet of whole grains, fresh, colorful fruits and veggies and lean protein the rest of the time.

If you have heart disease, however, the sodium can have pretty quick consequences, like you ending up in the hospital the next day! Also, if there is a history of heart disease in your family, you'll want to choose the lower fat items even if you eat them infrequently.

Hope that helps. Search on "My Food Pyramid" for more specific recommendations.

I eat fast food about 3 times a week. I used to like eating at fast food restaurants but after time and time again, I've gotten really bored with the same thing and now i try to cook my own meals. Sometimes.

It really depends on what you are eating all the other days of the week. If you generally eat a healthful diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat dairy, an occasional indulgence won't hurt you. If, however, you consistently eat unhealthful foods at home, then the fast food certainly isn't helping you any.
It also depends what you are eating as fast food. Some choices are better than others, clearly. Without knowing what you mean when you say "fast food," it is difficult to determine exactly how this will affect your overall health.

Eating fast food is like eating cookies or cake instead of a real meal.

Just think of it that way. You can have stuff like that every once in a while, but its not the same as eating food.

Depends on how heavy you are. If you are overweight you want to lay off the fast food completely. If you are older, you want to lay off the fast food. Fast food contributes to pot bellies in young people and obesity by middle age. Anyone can eat fast food in moderation. You start having fat problems when fast food is your old food.

Every two weeks should be fine. I saw the movie 'Super Size Me' and that made me give up fast food for good. Especially McDonalds.

That's fine. Look for places that do fresher food, instead of frozen ultra-processed junk like McDonald's. In-N-Out is great if you have it in your area (Southwestern U.S.) El Pollo Loco is good too. But twice a month is not bad at all, especially if you exercise.

do you feel ok? I went on holiday once and ate chocolate for every meal 4 a week. I felt ill!! you body will give you an idea if your taking to much junk in. If you feel fit then your doing something right. Same when i do crisps and cider to excess every day for a week i think my body wants to eject me!!!!Listen to yourself. if you listen carefully you will no if it makes you feel good or bad!.
