Why do men always want to fix things??? They never really want to listen and sympathize they just want to find the answer to your problem. Your independence is precious -- do not give it up and trust your own instincts. Do your own research about getting a new car and make your own decision. If you had a particular question you think he might have the answer to, ask him. Otherwise, he shouldn't be part of the decision-making unless he is also part of the payment-making!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I applaud your desire to remain independent. It is to be admired. I suggest you let him assist you in finding a car you eventually purchase but do not let him put any money toward it. You are not a hapless female looking for handouts and you want to drive that point home. Make sure the car you get is one YOU can afford.
Not necessarily in this situation, but your new beau is displaying a common tactic of getting his significant other to begin to depend on him, thereby making them feel obligated.
None of that for you!
If he truly cares...let him find ways to show you with merit, honor and character.

If he is special to you then let him give you his opinion and if you like it use it. If not don't. It's going to be your car. I went with my ex-wife and helped her choose a car. She totaled her other one too. If this is about the car no problem, if it's about your independence you have to deal with that. Is he making the decision for you? I don't think so. Use him for what he's good for.

I think you're being a little silly.
Being mature means you can graciously accept help from someone and be thankful. It has nothing to do with being "helpless" it's about being smart.
Now make up your mind- are you independent or do you "want him to take care of me"

Let him help because if you go out and get a lemon that would suck unless your gona buy a new one off the lot male input, and presences really makes a difference. Just buy a car that is alright but not something he would buy just to show you have your own opinion.
