What's the best response to someone who says "I love you" when you don't love them? So that nobody gets hurt... It's a fairly new relationship, yet also has been pretty intense so I understand there are feelings there, but clearly not as strong for me as for him. Don't want to hurt him. Also want to continue to see him. It was said without a chance to respond at the time, but I know when we see each other next, it will be right there between us if I don't address it. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

It's really a tough deal isn't it? If you can, explain that you are not ready to say the words. Just about what you put in your question isn't bad at all. If you cannot talk about it without hurt feelings, make a little note of that because it's not a good sign at all.

You don't always have to say "I love you" right back. In a relationship, honesty will make for a better one in the long run. If you do tell him you love him when you're not ready, he might end up expecting a relationship you're not ready for yet. To be honest, you should tell him that you're not sure if you're there yet, but your close. Just tell him to give you time if he persits. If he doesn't want to wait, then he isn't the guy for you. Someone who really loves you would wait until you're confident and comfortable.

quit caring so much about "not hurting anyone"... just say the truth. Comming up with "creative answers" only makes things worse. Someone who is infatuated with you will interpret just about anything as a sign that you actually love them so don't make things worse by feeding their fantasies.
Just reach out, dip your claws into their chest cavity and rip their heart out... there you go... that wasn't so bad was it? It gets easier if you practice it a few times. (ok I'm being silly... but really it's not nearly as hard to tell the truth than to have to fix up a really messy situation later because you didn't have the guts to tell it like it is.
I've told my wife when we were dating that I didn't have the kind of feelings that she had for me and I wasn't ready at that time. What's the point of pretending?

well i would just say that is nice but you need to give me more time for those feelings to grow ,, is just not there yet.. is better to upfront and honest than to let him continue thinking there is more at this time .. i had the same thing happen to me to .. was the hardest thing .. but came out great when there was honesty there

the honest answer is always the best answer it leaves no room for error or misunderstandings but don't be harsh just say thank you that's really nice to know but i am not at that stage in my life to say i love you back but i do care deeply maybe one day i will love you but right now my heart can't allow it i am not ready but i do want you in my life and one day i do want to love you but it takes time

Be honest and tell the guy that you are not the kind of girl who tells all the time I LOVE YOU.you will tell him when you feel deep in ur heart.he will love you for being honest.
