Yes, most religions have this rule. Christians, Jews and Muslims. Its not a written in concrete, but the Bible does say don't be unequally yoked. That way you have more in common with your spouse. If you spend a lot of time going to church activities and your spouse ALWAYS stayed at home, it would kind of suck. And then there are the arguements when kids are born, what religion they should be. It's just easier if both people have the same religious beliefs.

The bible says do not become unevenly yoked. If you marry someone of a different religion (Muslim and Christians or Christians and Jews ) It can work but it will be very hard to do. What happens if you each insist on raising your child in your own religion? What happens when one person is offended by the views of the other person? It takes a seriously strong person to work through the problems this can bring about. Unfortunately, most people nowadays are to selfish to willingly work out their problems. I am a christian and would not marry someone who is not of the same faith I am even if they are christian. I don't celebrate most holidays other view as being christian and would not allow my children to celebrate them either. Knowing that why would I get myself into a situation like that? I respect everyones right to choose their own religion and worship in the ways that they feel are appropriate to them however I am not willing to compromise on my faith.

Yes, because in the Bible it says
"Do not be unequally yoked! A believer with a nonbeliever. For what fellowship hath light with darkness." Use a concordance to find the verse because I cannot remember where it is at the moment. Sorry, lol!
Basically this means that if you are a Christian and you associate yourselves with this who are not or those who LIVE like they are not, you will become like them. How can someone who has the goals of the Kingdom of God share goals with someone who wants the things of this world? It's like two oxen pulling in two differnet directions. In order for a plow to work, the oxen must work together to get somewhere. It is similar in marriage. For a mariage to work, the two people have to have similar goals and work toward them. If they do not have similar goals, the marriage is bound to fail!
Hope that helps!

2 Corinthians 6:14 is where you can find the equally yoked reference. While it is in there, I'd more focus on why it's in there as opposed to just the fact that it is there. People should be married to people with similar beliefs about life. I'll even use a non spititual example - kids. If one person wants kids and the other doesn't, the one who wants them will be unhappy because they don't have the same goals.

Unequally Yoked -
2 Cor.6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

there is nothing in the bible about that (to my knowledge at least), but I know a christian that is dating an atheist so it is not true that they shouldn't date other religions

I think that Christians and Muslims should date. Then if they get married every family event will be a "Holy War."
