ooooh.......lower back pain is a bummer, I sufer with it too. Your best bet is to go to your doctor.

Anti-inflammatorys may help (ibuprofen, diclofenac etc), if these dont work, your doctor may suggest having electrotherapy (totally non-painful - just tingly) as this can work quite well.

Ive never used a belt, and I dont know anyone who has. i probably would avoid buying on off the internet, talk to your doctor first. There may be some excersises you can do to alleviate the pain, and he may suggest things like sleeping with a support between your knees, either a proper support or a pillow folded over. You may need to adjust your driving position too.

Ginger!!!! seriously ginger is by far the most effective treatment for my inflammation. I would often have painful even dehabilitating arm pain after sleeping which I figured out was from inflammation. Coincidentally I also had very puffy gums and I flossed every day. My dental hygienist was starting to get on my nerves often accusing me of not flossing or "doing it wrong." I also almost always have a bloated stomach. So far ginger has eliminated 2 of these problems (the first two.) Arm pain is gone and so are my puffy gums. I have a juicer at home and everyday (or every other day) I make myself a juice of a carrot, an apple and a 1 inch chunk of ginger. The ginger has powerful anti-inflammatory properties. The Chinese have been using it for millenia. It's powerful stuff and really works.

I to had this same problem driving then around 150 to 200 miles per day. I also used to pull over and cry it hurt so much. I'm in sales.
I finally had the drivers seat firmed up at a good upholstery shop. It cured the problem completely and I drove the car another several years. You do mention that driving makes you miserable. This might be the fix. Apparently the seat was to soft in the center. I finally ended up sitting on a board I cut to fit the seat.(Prior to the correction.)

I use Ibuprofen for my Rheumatoid Arthritis inflammation and swelling and have had excellent success. Plus max strength Excedrin (generic) as needed.

Good luck, I hope you try this to help yourself out. Especially if its worst when you drive.

I have the same thing. When it got really bad I went to an Osteopathic Physician. He did some manipulation and put me on an anti-inflammatory and a muscle relaxer. It helped a lot, but when I drive it does come back. Heat, hot tub, and rest help some and the muscle relaxer slows it down ( just don't take it before you drive!). I highly recommend regular Massage Therapy. I don't think the belts help ,but can't hurt to try.

If this is your Sacrolliac--it is more then likely it has slipped. It needs to be put back into position. It is very painful when its out--I know I have this problem.

Physical therapy taught me how to pop it back in. Generally you will have pain that seems worse on one side of your lower back.
In order to pop it back in you lay on the edge of a bed with the bad side on that edge--your leg hanging off.

Then with someones help--take the leg that is hanging and hug the side of the bed with it and have someone press on that knee to give resistance while you take your other leg on the bed and lock your hands around that knee (bent) and pull towards your chest and hold for the count of 6.

This will put your joint back in place--if the Sac. is the trouble you will then feel relief and be able to stand straight. If the Sac. is not the problem it will do you NO harm.

This may have to be repeated and it takes about 10 days for a Sac. flare up to heal.
Use anti-inflamatorys and ICE.

I use to place an ice back behind me when driving during one of these episodes.

Having said all this--the best thing is to see a Doc and eventually have an MRI to be sure nothing else is going on with your lower back.

I recommend taking Limu Plus daily (one or two ounces).

More about Limu Plus and why it will help you....

LIMU HAS THE FOLLOWING ANTI-INFLAMMATORY QUALITIES

Relieves Headaches

Relieves Pain

Relieves Backaches

Relieves Arthritis

Relieves Fibromyalgia

Immune System Booster - Limu's fucoidan can do what no synthetic drug can; fight bacteria while boosting the immune system, rather than weakening it.

Helps Fight Viruses - Limu's fucoidan increases the production of some types of interleukins and interferons secreted by immune cells (like T cells). This can be an exciting and effective treatment against viruses that cause hepatitis, chronic fatigue and even AIDS.

Halts Viruses - Fucoidan has been shown to bind to enveloped viruses, interfering with their ability to attach to host cells and preventing replication.

Specialized Immune Support - Laboratory tests show fucoidan boosts the level of immune-defense cells specifically designed to attack invaders, rather than boosting random defense cells.
