I assume you mean "watts" if so, uh...200 watts subwoofer, 100 watts each for front channels, and 50-100 watts for rears.
This is for Dolby 5.1 surround.

If you mean amplifier power, that depends a lot on the efficiency of the speaker. A horn-type speaker can fill a room at only 25 watts, while a low-efficiency acoustic-damped speaker may need 100 watts or more (this is watts per speaker). Most modern speakers fall somewhere between these extremes and will perform well at 50W per speaker. An exception is the subwoofer; most will require more than 100W, and for a large room ou might need 250W. Many sub-woofers are self-powered so you don't need to worry about them.
If you mean the actual number of amplifiers needed, the minimum for plain stereo is 2; For Dolby 5.1 you need 6, unless you have powered sub-woofer, in which case you need 5. 6.1 and 7.1 require one additional amplifier each if you want all the channels. Normally the amps for the center and surround channels are lower power than the two main speaker amps.

This largely depends on the size of your wallet.
Since my wallet is fairly small, I have a surround receiver and a powered subwoofer, so that would be 2 amplifiers if you count discrete.
Of course you can go the highend and buy N-monoblocks (N being the number of channels you want). So for a 6.1 setup you would have 7 monoblock amplifiers and a receiver with 7 outputs.
This gives total control over each surround phase and allows a totally custom solution. It does require a larger wallet :(.

It depends on the size of your home theater room. For a normal apartment sized living room, a 5, 6, or 7 x 100 wpc receiver would suffice. For larger rooms, bump up the wattage to 150 or 200 wpc. It is always better to have more reserve power to spare for the occasion where you really want to crank it up like a real theater.
