condemn Islam and the prophet, when Catholic history is filled with evil and inhuman treatment?
How could he be so stupid to make this statement given the state of the world today?

Quoting in the affirmative is the same as making the statement yourself.

violence is not right for any person but how could he not realize that his "quote" would inspire the very thing he was denouncing?

The guy has spent his entire adult life in an institution that fosters ignorance (like all religions).

He didn't condemn Islam. If you took any time to read the entire statement and the speech he gave you would see that the Islamic reaction is totally ridiculous. For those protesting that Islam is peaceful and not a waring religion all one has to do is look at the burned out Christian churches, the murdered Italian nun and the threats against the popes life by Islamic groups to come to the conclusion that maybe that middle ages ruler was right.

He called Islam violent. That made Muslims mad, so they burn pope statues. They proved his point with their reactions.
Edit:
"violence is not right for any person but how could he not realize that his "quote" would inspire the very thing he was denouncing?"
That is like someone punching you for this question, and saying it is your fault. What if I burn things, and riot every time someone prays to Allah. Is that their fault? Should they stop? According to you, yes. If we stop freedom of speech every time a Muslim cries and kills, then that is letting terrorism work. While you may like that, most people on answers dislike terrorism.

We are all stupid for not agreeing with you? How Muslim of you to say that.

Crimes of the past do not justify crimes in the present or future.
If someone with a history of religious violence is condemned for now saying that religious violence is evil and against the word of God, then how can anyone on Earth seriously hope for peace?
The pope should be commended for stating that religious violence is evil and inhumane. I wish the leaders of Islam who are now busy issuing fatwas against all nonbelievers would stop and do the same.

well I think if you read, he had quoted an old text during an academic speach he was giving. islam is the ONLY religion in the world that kills anyone who says anything they dont like about their religion. Remember the cartoons? how many people died becuase mulims are death filled creatures? The catholic church and other religions did alot of nasty things, but the difference is, the rest of the world moved on past that hundreds of years ago. muslims and islam did not. they want to drag the world back to the 7th century so they can feel like a part of the world again.

Well at least the Pope didn't fly planes with innocent children into the twin towers and kill innocent people trying to make an honest days living. You are incredibly sick.If you had lost people on that horrible day, maybe you wouldn't be looking for ways to talk bad about the pope.At least he had the balls to stand up and say something, instead of cowering in a corner, making insolent remarks .

First of all, he did not make the statement. He was referring to centuries old doctrines. That people are upset about it and saying that he said certain things is just an example of what religion does to people. Religion, whatever it may be blinds people to truth. And so it goes.

Try reading the speech, first. He was condemning all religious violence.
And if the metaphor you present holds true for all, none would be entitled to speak because there is violence throughout history done by all groups.

So what is your point? Is saying that NAZI's are wrong, evil and murderous a bad thing or is it simply calling a SPADE a SPADE?
What difference does it make that 1,000 years ago some people that we did not know did things that we do not agree with???
Muslims are killing people and THEN CHEERING ABOUT IT!!
There is a difference. They are praising Hitler for killing Jews....

thankfully, the Catholics overcame their violent tendencies, Islam, however is reverting back to them. while I'm an Rcc, if they were to fight with violence rather than prayer and scripture, i would hope someone would do the same thing to them.
