and is it common for your mouth to be sore? My gums aren't used to the pressure of the retainer and it sometimes slips out above my teeth when I eat or drink something. Is this common when you first get them on?

I was also told to keep them on when I eat so I get used to them more. Is this ok? And finally, do I have to clean my retainer after every meal or just at night?

Yep - It's gonna hurt. It will get easier as you get used to it. But the first week or so can be tough. Just try to keep yourself distracted.

I just got my braces off a week ago and got retainers today too! My orthodontist said to always wear it when eating, but I'm not going to because I don't want to clean it 3 times a day. If it's slipping out, maybe it's not adjusted properly.

If you do decide to eat with them (as you're told to), you should clean them after each meal so they don't get dirty.

yes it is common, my mouth was very sore when i first got my retainer. i cried because it hurt so bad! (i was like 8) i was allowed to take my retainer out when i ate, so im not sure about that. i only cleaned mine when it needed it. if its full of food after a meal, i would clean it.

It's normal for it to be sore but if it is like a hard pressure you might want to go back to the orthodontist because it could be adjusted wrong. i used to take mine out when i ate so i didnt break it and i cleaned it after every meal just so my breath didnt stink :)

Its widely used for retainers to be somewhat uncomfortable to start with. this ought to settle after a pair of days. the main ordinarily used retainers presently are the vaccume-shaped sparkling plastic ones. those may well be wiped sparkling with a delicate toothbrush and chilly water. sparkling your the teeth after meals earlier changing the retainers. The retainers themselves must be wiped sparkling morning and evening once you sweep your the teeth.

Its normal for your mouth to be sore but it shouldn't slip over your teeth. It should fit snuggly and feel secure. If it continues to move around talk to your dentist/ortho

Do you keep yours in when you eat? Erlack! When I had mine I took it out to eat, which resluted in me throwing it away on accident many times, but i clean it at night. It is common for you to be sore, especially when you just get it and when its just been tightend. You should try braces, they can be le merde and double poo.
