I worked as a jeweler for over six years, and had a handful of customers who could not wear a "standard" watch of any make. It seemed as though their body chemistry just conducted the power out of the watch. I remember selling a woman four different watches over the course of two months, and she would return them all, saying they kept dying on her. And then we'd watch it in the store, wear it around, and it was fine.
My suggestion would be a wind-up watch, since they have no electrical power. Or, a pocketwatch that gets worn in the pocket, not on the wrist.
Yes, it's possible... but it's rare.

I'm with Jim on this one - I had a g/f who could not wear a watch for this reason. However, it also affected the clocks around her too (like the digital one in my car)!
I do not know if mechanical clocks/watches were immune, but how often have you found yourself getting insights?
Many believe that this sort of thing is linked to psychic ability. I have also seen people affect computers (& some watches/clocks) in a similar way when I used to work as a Dell warranty engineer. There were some people I got to see every week, and at that point in my life I did not believe in God, Spirits or Anything Psychic!
I have even 'suffered' from this for a while myself (although not for a while now), but again only with electronic watches, clocks, and signs - like the rotating ones on poles that tell the time, temp & wind speed in a town or city square. Ever had one that showed the same figure for all three & the same time on your car's clock & your watch - three times in the same week? (And YES, Mr Skeptic, I have been an avid reader of Daniel Dennett)
I do not think the 'bit of bone or skin pressing against the case' agument makes any sense - the watch usually has a steel back. So are these people saying that you are bending the back, without feeling any pain on your wrist?
So, try a purely mechanical watch (Seiko, Rotary, Citizen, & Omega still make them if you want modern). Failing that, if you just can't ware any watch, become a psychic & amaze all your friends with your lovely positive insights.
Love & light, FB.

Sounds to me like the base plate is pressing against the moving mechanism inside the watch when it's worn, stopping that little wheel inside the watch that makes the watch "tick."
When you take it off, there no longer is any pressure against that little wheel so it starts ticking again. Suggest opening up the back of watch to see what's going on.

Yeah, it has happened to many of my watches over the years. I think it just signals a low battery. In the past, when I've changed my battery, it has worked properly again. Good luck.
