Hi Doretha. B12 deficiency is quite common. B12 lozenges are usually high-dose supplements of B12 that are absorbed 'under the tongue'.

B12 is one of many nutrients needed for a very important chemical process in the body called 'methylation'. Lack of B12, B2, B6, Folic acid (another B vitamin), choline (another B vitamin) and/or the amino acid methionine can impair the body's methylation process. When this process is impaired many chronic health problems can be created, including heart disease, neurodegenerative brain diseases, and even some common cancers.

The other answerer made a good point about needing 'all nutrients' for optimum health. Nutrients work in harmony - they are not solo-drugs. Consequently, taking a quality multi-vitamin/mineral supplement (as recommended by the Journal of the American Medical Association in June of 2002) in addition to any additional B12 in a microlozenge is a good idea for reducing your risks for many chronic diseases.

Best wishes.

They are vitamins, which are just foods. I should not imagine they would be harmful. The thing to remember with vitamins is that they need to be consumed in a complete vitamin and mineral matrix to work with each other, single vitamins are not the whole answer to deficiencies. I work with a world-leader in vitamin and mineral supplements, and have been using them myself for the past three years. I feel great.
