You know...you say that you dont know why he gets you so annoyed...but you just mentioned that you were in vermont and he flipped about losing sunglasses. You just showed that his temperament, or his attitude is the bottom of this feeling. Think about everything your dad goes through, or what he has gone through of the past. Do you know him well enough to feel this slight annoyance toward his slightest presence. You know... I used to feel that my dad would always spoil me because I was his only daughter. But you know what? I started learning things about him and his past. About where he grew up, who he grew up with, and HOW he grew up, which tells you ALOT about who he is now. My dad never had a father figure...he walked out on them when they were around 3 or 4 by they I mean his two other brothers...(he's one of 9)... He was never really around his mother because his mother worked out of the country, and he was raises by his older brother and himself, and he also raised his younger brother. Can you imagine what he went through? Never had a moment for themselves? No real childhood. His only childhood memories are those of the times it rained...you are 14,,,and you're far from understanding things from another perspective...but i'm quite sure you're mature enough to wonder about his past. If you put interest into his life...he'll appreciate your time for asking...even though he won't mention it. Think about it though. Take care and good luck~~!

As others have mentioned, it's usually not possible to change other people's attitudes, so you have to work on your own. Try thinking of the good things that he does for you, like driving you up to Vermont for vacation, or putting a roof over your head, or whatever you do enjoy about him. If that doesn't work try thinking about something else, like your friends or your favorite TV show, and that will at least let you be distracted while things that annoy you are happening.

You may also want to talk with a counsellor at your school. Most kids go through conflicts with their parents, and many adults too (I'm 28 and I still find my dad annoying), so your counsellor definitely knows how to deal with it. Try talking with friends about how they handle their parents, or with another adult you trust such as an aunt, librarian, or teacher.

Good luck!

You answered your own question. You are 14, you will be annoyed with a lot of things,it's your age. What you need to do is try to realize that life is shorter than you think it is and getting upset over all of the small things is stupid.Once you get to that point life will be easier and more fun.Don't expect change overnight you are at a tough age.Cut dad some breaks and tell him you love him,he will be a great advocate for you in a couple years, when mom annoys you.

Doesn't most kids feel like this? Don't all kids feel their parents don't understand cuz the are just not with it? They are too old fashioned etc? This is normal. The only thing you can do is just be patient and breathe. Tell him calmly and reasonably what you think he should do (in your opinion) and show how mature you can be.

You can't stop the feeling unless you change your attitude first. Your kids will one day say the same thing about you, so unless you deal with it now, you'll never know how to deal with your kids in the future. Nuff said.

Stop being a spoiled brat and act like his daughter. I bet he go annoyed with you filling your diapers and having to change them when you were young. That didn't stop him from loving you.

Whats your problem. he isn't hitting you like other kids get hit from bad Dads. He flipped because he lost something that cost him money. .

I am sorry he acts that way, but you can't change others you can only change yourself. As hard as it is just accept that that is who he is or try talking to him, but it sounds as that he might flip out if you do.
