In Acts 2, the multitude all heard the same message. About 3000 understood it the same way, believed it the same way, and obeyed it the same way. They became Christians, nothing more, nothing less, nothing else.
If we read the scriptures and find out and understand what they were taught, believe the things they believed, and do the things they did, we will be saved just like they were and we will become what they became - Christians!
One thing they were told to do is to "be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins." (verse 38) "In the name of Christ" means by his authority. To follow someones authority is to follow his instructions. Jesus had instructed this message that was taught and Jesus told the apostles to teach the things He had commanded (Mark 16:16, Luke 24: 46-47, Matthew 28:18-20)
The apostles taught exantly as Christ had instructed. Those that accepted this message and believed and obeyed, were saved. This message came by the inspiration of God. We can only be saved by God through Christ and His word!
These people were saved because the word they followed came from God. If they had followed another plan, another religion, a man's teaching, they would be following the doctrine of men, not the doctrine of God. The doctrine of men cannot save.
Jesus said those who worship him according to the commandments of men, are worshiping in vain! (Matthew 15:9) True faith comes by hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17), not from the teaching of men or denominations. The Bible says there is only "one faith"! (Ephesians 4:5)
About baptism, this same verse says there is now only "one baptism".
Why follow various religions, when the word of God gives us everything we need to be saved? (2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:3) We need to follow God's word and have the unity that Jesus prayed for (John 17:17-21) and Paul pleaded for (1 Cor. 1:10)!
Only the Gospil of Christ is the power of God unto salvation! (Romans 1:16, Gal 1:6-9) Everything else is accursed!

Baptism is an outward symbol, a public proclamation of what has taken place in your heart. That said....
God is not a respector of persons (or religions). There will be many people saved that have never been baptized. The denomination you belong to does not determine your salvation.
The personal walk with God and the willingness to learn more and more about him -- and accept what you learn -- through study and prayer will determine your salvation.
If you learn something new and attack it or turn your back on it you will be found twice guilty. Ever thought about that?

Water baptism will only get you wet. You must be saved by fire from the holy spirit.Jesus said we are saved by faith and grace, not from works or baptism.

It's the heart, what is in your heart. Baptism is important, but the thief on the cross wasn't baptized, yet Jesus told him "Today, you will be with me in Paradise" The heart is what brings you to Him.

There is only one Christianity.
That of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Baptism does not guarentee salvation.
It is an outward expression of following in the steps of Christ, death to sin, burial and resurrection to new life.

Everyone that has received baptism by fire, or is filled with the Holy Spirit, is saved. Work on it// You do not need belong to a religion, or go to a church, yet do the work to save the TRUE SELF..

"With soap, baptism is a good thing." - Robert Ingersoll
Nobody is saved by Baptism or any other religious rite. There are no gods. Nobody is saved. All of us eventually die.
Deal with it.

I don't think baptism guarantees salvation. It's just more of an "initiation" rite, if you will, into the church or faith.
