does anyone know if naproxen is good for lower back pain whichis travelling into my right buttock. I have had this pain for years and recently it has often got me in tears. When i sit i feel like someone is sticking a knife from my buttock right into my lower back. My body often tilts to thr right. I have got some naproxen (which you can buy over the counter in spain) does anyone know how many 500mg tablets you should take.

Or does anyone know of any other effective painkillers. My GP has prescribed me diazapam and tramadol but they just make me feel spaced out and do nothing for the pain. Im desperate.

Naproxen works great for persistent back pain!!

About directions, this is regarding a pill with 200mg of naproxen:
--------------------------------------------------------------
Take one tablet, caplet or gelcap every 8 to 12 hours while symptoms persist. With experience, some people may find that an initial dose of two tablets, caplets or gelcaps followed by one ALEVE® tablet, caplet or gelcap 12 hours later, if necessary, will give better relief.

Do not exceed three tablets, caplets or gelcaps in 24 hours unless directed to do so by a doctor. The smallest effective dose should be used. Drink a full glass of water with each dose.
--------------------------------------------------------------

So if I were you, I would take your 500mg naproxens no more than 1 every 12-hours.

Naproxen is an NSAID that is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. You can get ibuprofen tablets over the counter here but naproxen is a pso here. (Prescription only drug.) It should help you but ALWAYS take it with food and if you suffer from an upset stomach while taking this drug stop immediately. Do not take any more than 8 tablets in 24 hours and no more than two at a time.NSAID's can cause stomach bleeding. Some Nsaids have also been linked with heart attacks but to my knowledge naproxen hasn't. I suffer from Rheumatoid Arthritis and USED to take naproxen but I had to stop as it brought back an ulcer I had years ago in my duodenum. Please be careful. It sounds as if you have sciatica, that is so painful but can clear up on it's own accord. Physiotherapy may help.

What is the most important information I should know about naproxen?

Naproxen can increase your risk of fatal heart attack or stroke, especially if you use it long term or take high doses, or if you have heart disease. Do not use this medicine just before or after heart bypass surgery (coronary artery bypass graft, or CABG).
Naproxen may also cause stomach or intestinal bleeding, which can be fatal. These conditions can occur without warning while you are using naproxen, especially in older adults.

When I had my back problems my doctor prescribed Naproxin, it was really effective. I had similar symptoms and it turned out to be a trapped nerve. You should see a doctor.
Remember that it is an anti-inflammatory as well as a pain killer, so you have to should take it as instructed (usually around 7 days) and not miss a pill just because the paid has eased. If it doesn't go be then you must see a doctor.
Sorry forgot to say - 1 (500 mg) pill 3 times a day.

I would need to know a lot more about your medical history, and yourself, before I can comment fully on your condition, but I can give you hope, inasmuch that I have had three occasions of prolapsed disc, but I have been able to return to keeping wicket for my local cricket club, which involves a lot of bending and squatting. Not bad for someone approaching their fiftieth birthday.

I suggest that you try the services of an Osteopath or Chiropractor. They will investigate the cause of your lower back problem and ameliorate it as far as they can.

Painkillers make back problems worse, because they kill the pain, and thus enable you to move about, but the movements may be deletorious to your back condition. Try to do without the painkillers, if you can.

DO NOT TAKE THE NAPROXEN UNTIL YOU HAVE CONSULTED WITH A DOCTOR OF MEDICINE. THEY ARE NOT PRESCIBED FOR YOU, AND COULD CAUSE HARM TO OTHER PARTS OF YOUR BODY, SUCH AS YOUR LIVER OR KIDNEYS, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE TAKING OTHER MEDICATIONS - EVEN ASPIRIN..

This may have nothing to do with your question but why are you so dependant on painkillers.Did your GP ever suggest some physio.Maybe if you can do exercises to improve your posture, strengthen back muscles you may be able to rely less on these pills.

JUST A SUGGESTION
