The majority of girls seem to feel it's the guys "job", what is her "job" in this game...since he is taking the rejection risk?

LadyD: good post, but i disagree with the first word "lead". You only lead someone who wants to be lead. My question is about "approaching".

Lead...the woman also has the hard decision of turning you down...for some it's easy just as it is easy for some guys to do the approaching, but for some women, it can be hard to turn down a guy and one things leads to another. It's up to the woman to steer the guy in the right direction, or steer out of the way. She also takes the chance of making a mistake. Cause 4 out of 9 times somehow they end up meeting the guy again in some awkward way or another, this world is so small you risk of bumping into that person within a week if not a year. LOL... Seriously though? I know a lot of women (most of my friends) who had to approach their guys to give them the DIRECT hint that they were interested...Good luck finding one that will help you do the work ((aproaching wise)).

It's 'old school' to think only guys can approach girls...but for so long that's how it was done (it wasn't 'ladylike' for a woman to make the first move) that many women, even today, find it difficult to approach a guy and fear 1) rejection (guys deal with it but it's still scary) and 2) fear of being thought to be promiscuous or easy because they made the first approach...
I've known women who discouraged other women from approaching men, by telling them guys never take a woman seriously who does that (might have sex with her, but not a more serious relationship)...that kind of thing scares some women off, who might otherwise have the nerve to say 'hi' first...
It's not fair that guys are always the ones (initially) to face possible rejection...however, women get plenty of it themselves so don't think it's not something we have to deal with...we get rejected all the time too...

It is 2006 and there are lots of girls doing the "approaching!" Enjoy! It's nice to be able to choose either way! As a female of the 21st century, the "old rules" no longer stand rigid so enjoy the opportunity to grasp life and make your own decision as to whether you want to approach someone or wait to be approached. A young lady can finds lots of "proper and discreet ways" or "not so discreet" to introduce herself to a man. It's fun! It's allowed! And, it's OKAY!!!!
