Thank you once again for telling everyone this is pointless as long as the federal government doesn't do it all for us. Not everyone is basing their hopes on those useless people. If everyone thought like that this country wouldn't even exist. If those cowards who fled their homeland to take ours can unite, then why can't we? It is already being done in many places all across the country.

Alas yes ... this IS pretty much a moot conversation I'm afraid ... I have a strong feeling that it'll be "business as usual" .. a sop to the electorate to shut them up, and when it's all over and done with, gas prices will rise again and the border fence will be put on the long finger ... still, I too enjoy, or enjoyed, this forum, and it is interesting to see where people stand on the issue of illegal immigration ... but I do feel that if our govt had had any intention of stemming the flood of illegals, they could, and would, have done it by now ... it's hardly rocket science, and even our numbskulls in govt should be able to do it ... so yes, the corporations will get what they want, the best we can hope for is making it as unpleasant as possible for them ... :)

While it is true that money is "the mothers milk of politics" (per Joe Kennedy), the votes from the public still have to be generated. Unfortunately the "money" from the lobbyists is funneled into advertising during elections. As long as people will decide their vote based on political ads, instead of looking at the issues, the lobbyists are doing their job. It is true that corporations contribute vast sums to the candidates of their choice, but the amount pales when compared to PACS (both left and right) and the Unions (whose history shows a 93% commitment to the Democratic side). The only real solution is for people to analyze the issues and the candidates' positions and ignore the biased and slanted ads. But they won't. It is much easier to base ones opinions on 30 second sound bites. Alas.

My guess is that no new policy will be passed...the current policy of "pretend not to notice they're here" will continue. Hence laws will be moot due to lack of enforcement even if they remain on the books...like so many of our laws.

The point of any discussion is to raise awareness of the issues.
Congress may only listen to lobbyies, but they are still elected by the people. Change enough people's minds, and change Congress.

If we understood the power of our thoughts,
we would guard them more closely.
If we understood the awesome power of our words,
we would prefer silence to almost anything negative.
In our thoughts and words we create
our own weaknesses and our own strengths.
Our limitations and joys begin in our hearts.
We can always replace negative with positive
We do not see things as they are.
We see them as we are.
