James Bond is wrong. It should be stirred not shaken. Put a small amount of both sweet and dry vermouth in the chilled martini glass. Ice (8 oz) and gin (jigger and a pony) in a shaker, use the good stuff, I like Bombay Sapphire. Stir and strain into the chilled martini glass. Add 2 olives on a pick.

Winston Churchill loved his martinis very dry. As long as there was a bottle of vermouth in the same room it was dry enough. A bartender tought me how to make the best dry martini. Just whisper the word vermouth over the glass. Done

Put 1/2 oz of Vermouth on the "Martinera" or martini glass and move it. Then drop the vermouth.
You put 3 oz of Gin in the cocktail cup with ice.Stirr it, do not shake it
Put the Gin on the Martinera without the ice.
Add an olive.

Use highest quality gin/vodka and swirl, don't shake.
Most people expect 'em with the ice strained out in a fancy schmancy marini glass, too.
Ask the customer about garnish- some like olives, pearl onions, twist 'o lemon, etc... personal taste varies.

easy, just poor your choice of vodka over ice, add cocktail olive juice to it (green olives) about a table spoon, shake and poor into glass(without the ice of course). Dont forget the olives on the toothpick to sit in the drink, they are so good to eat after the drink is finished. If you like it dirty, add more olive juice.
