I think that everyone is right. maybe it is a combination of things. I know that i was abused as a child, and in return i made excuses so i wouldn't get in trouble. maybe that's like you....you just want to get out of trouble. but yet on the other hand the whole world makes excuses for stuff that they do. I admit i still do. I makes the person think that they are not responsible for something that they did.

If you are doing a report for your mom, it's because you have made a lot of excuses yourself. So, you sit down and you figure out why YOU make so many excuses. That's what she wants you to do. Make a stab at it, you may learn something about yourself.

I don't know why your mother would make you do a report on teenagers making up excuses when it's a world of people that make up excuses. It's very rare to find anyone who steps up and accepts the fact that they got caught lying or they forgot to do something or anything to that extent. No one likes to admit they are wrong or that they messed up. If they don't make up excuses then that would mean that they are admitting their irrisponsibility. NOT ONLY TEENAGERS DO IT, BUT IT'S ALL PEOPLE OF ALL AGES.

Not Teenagers don't give excuses. They just give answers and parents don't always like the answers.

Why do some adults give excuses? same answer as teenagers.

People in general give excuses. And many people mistaken the truth for an excuse because thats easier to believe. And many people mistaken an excuse for the truth. Doesn't matter how old or young you are.

they act like adults and soon find that if they take the easy way out it usually works. trust me you don't have to look far (u.s. government, for one) to realize that adults make excuses for their actions as often as teens, but they have had more practice. in the end, adults are just better at it. so, your mom's question should be, "why do people give so many excuses?"

Excuses were not allowed in my house when I was growing up so I'm not sure why they were used. Today, it seems to me like a lot of kids aren't raised to take responsibility for their own choices and actions.

I don't think it's only teenagers. We all give excuses when we don't want to take responsibility for our actions.

Because Parent don't listen to teenager even when they are telling the truth. Teenagers are on the defensive because of it.
