Well first of all, you don't want to be saying "an good." But, the trick to writing a good English paper is first and primarily, figuring out what the teacher wants to hear. English teachers are always biased and will grade their own view on things well. Make sure you start off with a good Introduction which starts off with a hook and somewhere has a thesis statement that sums up what you will be writing about. Then you have your body paragraphs, each with a different point to back up your thesis. Finally, end with your conclusion paragraph which sums up your entire paper. End on a "who cares" statement which shows what you are writing about is actually important. I'm in AP composition so i have a pretty good idea what a good English paper is.

MLA format. Introductory paragraph with a good, solid thesis. Present an argument that you want to discuss. State in the end of the paragraph the points you intend on making. In the second, third and fourth paragraphs, address those points one by one while referring to your argument. Finally, a concluding paragraph which restates the thesis and interweave your logic in tying everything together.

well start off by deciding what you want to write about,
add details and facts.
If you are doing a research paper, my BIGGEST tip is to site all your sources AS SOON AS YOU GET THEM.
Even if you dont use them in the paper, make a works consulted page then, IT really helps!!!!
