When I take him for a walk, and it doesn't matter where we go, whether it be around our neighborhood, or on a trail in the woods. He will eventually grab hold of the leash and try to pull me back home. If I coax him on a bit further, he will follow, but in protest, and when we do turn to go back home, he is like a bullet, like a horse heading back to the barn for food, Is this a common trait in a german shepherd pup, to be a little unsure??????????

Just a homebody I guess.

A pup is very curious about things but does find security in home.

Be patient - it will come around.

He's a little scared and unsure of the new surroundings... have patience and continue taking him out for walks. Try to get him socialized with other dogs to... this will not only help him WANT to get outside but keep him from acting like an idiot the first time he runs into one when he's older.

well usually german shepard puppies learn from there mother and father about going out and becoming brave and such while they grow up. But it is in the breed of dogs blood, since you gave it little time to be with its parents I suggest you be patient and let it become more larger.

Well he is probably scared you should wait till he gets a little bit older. Mabey you should hold him the next time you want to walk him and take him out side and hold him but if hes too heavy than nevermind lol.

. i would say his is more likely trying to show dominance. you really need to put him in an obedience class as soon as you can. they can show you ways to curb that behavior. you don't want to let him get away with it for too long or you will loose your place and it will only get worse. I would also recommend that you get him fixed. that will also make him more attentive to you.
