it seems that they only percieve time in a broad sense, like when to eat and when to sleep. the household variety seems to know when its time for you to walk by a nice hiding spot that they can attack from, and when you are going to feed them, so they can take nap-time afterwards.

yes but in a different way. Say you feed them at acertain time or you get home at acertain time. They know that time down to the minute. Even if they had been sleeping or outside.

My Rosie ALWAYS wakes me up five minutes before the alarm goes off, no matter what time I set it for!

They don't have wristwatches for sure. They always know when it is time for me to get up. They always know when it is time for dinner. They also know when it is "bedtime" and are impatient for me to turn out the lights, turn back the covers and snuggle up for sleep.

we can never know for sure unless we could ask them but i think they can. whenever i tell my cat i'm going on a vacation for one week or 3 days he seems to understand.
