In response to the Pope's quote Al-Qaida in Iraq issued this statement, "You infidels and despots, we will continue our jihad (holy war) and never stop until God avails us to chop your necks and raise the fluttering banner of monotheism, when God's rule is established governing all people and nations."

Does their response not affirm The Pope's quote when he spoke to professors in Germany and quoted 14th-century Byzantine emperor Manuel II Paleologus.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached," Benedict quoted.

Taimur, it really depends on how you interpret "mischief"and "excesses". Not to mention the Qu'ran is a relatively big book with other disturbing passages shattered throughout its pages. Combine this with certain Hadiths and the Sharia it is not hard to see how some interpret violence against non-muslims. Oh sure if they comply then give them a belief tax.
know that not all believe this but plenty of Muslims are too sympathetic or scared to stand up to those who are creating extreme suffering in the name of Islam.

Jade, I sure hope the vast majority of Muslims believe you interpretation of their interpretation. The truth of the matter is the "radical" Muslims are getting this idea from somewhere. It would not be as prevalent as it were if it were not too easy to "misinterpret" passages within the Koran, Hadith, and the Sharia.

Notice you said that they are "Al-Quaida". They in no way represent all of Islam, especially since most Muslims say that a Jihad is a spiritual struggle and not a holy war.
What is the point of a "holy war". I'm not sure any practicing Muslim will be able to tell you. You'd have to ask the al quaida.
But the point of a jihad? Any other practicing Muslim would probably say that the point is to achieve some spiritual fulfillment. Jihad literally means "struggle", and that includes a personal struggle within oneself.

Old Manuel II Paleologus was obviously no student of history if he thought that converting people at the point of a sword was new, even in Mohammed's time. Of course, Christians are hardly innocent of this either. Maybe nobody should be throwing stones, neh?

The goal of Jihad is the total conversion of the world to Islam, however the world will end (according to the koran) before the world is totally converted, so I guess the point of Jihad is the end of the world or something...
Jihad, has been tossed around as a threat as much as anything, however JIHAD is something that the muslims ARE COMMANDED TO DO!

Their response is an indictment against their religion of so called "Peace".
And as for the Mr. Al-Qaida men above me,
It's "Fololish" to believe and follow the sayings and words of the "Child Molester", Muhammed!!!
It was "Evil" for 54 year old Muhammed to have a sexual relationship with a 9 year old "Child"!!!!,

Besides the "Evil" of Muhammed robbing caravans for a living and murdering people!!!

Pope Benedict and the Emperor Paleologus were correct in what they said!!

The ultimate goal of Jihad seems to be domination of the world and death to all non Muslims. They would cut off the oil, but that would cut off their money supply. We will not need their oil in the next five years. What will they do then???

you asked to show.. here it is
"On that account: We ordained for the Children of Israel that if any one slew a person - unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land - it would be as if he slew the whole people: and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people. Then although there came to them Our apostles with clear signs, yet, even after that, many of them continued to commit excesses in the land. (The Noble Quran, 5:32)"
NOW HOW DOES THAT SOUND TO YOU AS "EVIL AND INHUMANE"?????????????

Seems the goal is to convert as many as they can to their religion and kill the ones who dont want to?
