Yes two for each leg.

Simply attach one strap to the front tail of the shirt (in the middle of the tail at the bottom.) Do this on both fron tails.

Then you will place a strap on the backside of your shirt (where your right or left hip will be (just above your butt) do this on both sides.

You will take the back straps and wrap them around going from your side to the inside of your leg then to the outside of where your socks are. do this to both.

Then take the front straps and cross them the other way and attach to your sock on the inside of each leg.

It will make an "X" pattern in the back of each leg.

Hope it helps.

Dayryn G got the answer correct, and Wiz D, you are WRONG.

Shirt Garters attach to your shirt tails and socks, PULLING your shirt down into your pants to keep a ship-shape appearance. My introduction to them was right after boot-camp in Naval Air Crewman School (NACS).

The instructors made them mandatory... it was a matter of pride in your appearance. Along with a dungarees shirt that was ironed and starched to the texture of cardboard.

I recall wearing them for years with Navy Tropical Whites, Navy Winter Working Blues, Navy Aviation Greens, and the Navy Dungaree Uniform.

You could TELL those who wore them... SHARP.

I've never heard of Y style though.

The others (except for WizD, who apparently has no clue what you're referring to) are correct. It does take a bit to get used to when wearing them, but after a while, you hardly notice them.

Shirt garters are for your SLEEVES... not your legs.. unless of course you wear your shirts as pants...????

The Shirt Garters are to 'hold up' your shirt sleeves... duh !!!
