I visited Singapore in 1996... I recall penalties for the ACT of chewing gum in public... and I seem to recall that smoking had to be done in certain locations...

Smoking in Public Buses, the MRT, Taxis, Elevators, and Air-conditioned places is deemed against the law and is punishable by fines up to $1000.

OH... and the importation or sale of chewing gum is illegal !!

Well from someone I know who had visited singapore a few years ago, you could either go to jail, or pay a fine. I've heard you can only smoke in certain areas.

well if you have more than a few ounces of marijuana there, they'll execute you--so you never know what'll happen if you smoke in the wrong place...
