I always wondered why Hitler did not order the use for gas to be used against allied forces at the end of WW2? it was clear that Hitler and the axis forces were not thinking of surrender till the very end... therefore why did they not use gas to protect Berlin?

Hitler indeed ordered his top officials to carry out a plan. It wasn't gas however, it called for the total destruction of Germany.

Hitler did not want anyything left standing for the allied forces when Germany fell, so he gave the order to have every village and city burned to the ground.

This plan was not accepted and his order was refused and never carried out. By the time the inevitable surrender of Germany, most Germans knew they had lost the war long ago, and Hitler was grasping at straws saying how Germany would bounce back.

The German citizens, and the leaders of the German army wanted something left to rebuild on, not starting from scratch and putting them back into the stone age.

So to answer, Hitler did devise a plan to destroy his own people. It was never carried out.

I would think because if had resorted to the use of say Mustard Gas, how could it be specifically targeted against the allied forces of the U.S., Britain, and the Soviets? It would also affect his own troops and what few civilians he had left to fend of the invasion.

Not even gas would have save Berlin, and he new it, what will be the point of using it? In any case, it was not such equipment in Berlin for such an action.

I don't know if he ordered the use of gas or not. However, I know he ordered "scorched earth" tactics. In the last weeks, he ordered all industry and infrastructure in Germany destroyed. His generals recognized that he was nuts and did not obey his orders. So maybe he ordered gas used too, but it was not obeyed.

Because his generals knew the war was over and they all wanted to live. So if he did order it the generals didn't do it. They all wanted to surrender to the americans.

The enemy wasn't IN Berlin. The enemy was outside the city and Berlin was getting their Butts bombed in a major way. Once we got to Berlin it was over.

It was too late. Plus with all the drugs he was on, he thought many units that no longer existed were still fighting. His was a vision of either total glory or allowing everyone to die.

It was in a civilian area and would have killed more germans than allied troops.
