I'm not sure about that. I've heard it said that switching reduces wax build-up though. What I do know is that I have to change up because if I don't, then my hair gets all limp and lifeless. If I change shampoos then it stays more bouncy and has more fullness.
So, although I'm not sure about the wax, I'm sure that something happens, maybe even in a chemical kind of way, but I couldn't say just what it is.

I don't know about wax. Some shampoos cause buildup, others don't. Most of the buildup is from styling products, leave-in conditioners, etc. Just use a clarifying shampoo once a week (unless you have color-treated hair) and you should be fine. I have dyed hair so I don't use clarifying shampoo except for the last wash before re-dying it. I like Bumble and bumble's Seaweed shampoo.

i dont know if it is specifically wax buildup...but changing shampoos regularily does reduce build up. i keep 4 different sets of shampoo and conditioner and i never use the same one 2 days in a row...but i am fanatical.

I try to change my shampoo every four months. So far I don't have wax build up so I guess it works!
