what could they detect may cause my memory loss by using an EEG test???

The EEG will measure the electrical activity of the brain. The MD is trying to pin point the cause of your memory loss. Some causes are listed below:
Causes
Aging
Alzheimer's disease
Neurodegenerative illness
Head trauma or injury
Hysteria often accompanied by confusion
Seizures
General anesthetics such as halothane, isoflurane, and fentanyl
Alcoholism
Stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA)
Transient global amnesia
Drugs such as barbiturates or benzodiazepines
Electroconvulsive therapy (especially if prolonged)
Temporal lobe brain surgery
Brain masses (caused by tumors or infection)
Herpes encephalitis
Other brain infections
Depression
Do you take any recreational drugs? There are a number of causes. The EEG will narrow it down to the cause.
There is a good free form amino acid for memory it is Taurine. You can get it at your local GNC (General Nutrition Center ) Store.

Having a close friend who went through that and many other procedures there are a few other causes that you may also consider oxygen deprivation or shortage , neurosynaptic dysfunction , a mass od something pressing on brain , prescription drugs like Remeron, also neurochemical imbalances old age, stress , trauma, he may also do a cat scan an Mri and some sessions with a neurologist basically they are trying to rule out know causes organic or inorganic and hence ideopathic hope this helps gorbalizer
