The verse in lev. is talking about cutting the body or marking the body for the dead. That is an entirely diffrent thing that piercing or marking your body like most of us do it, or rather for the reasons we do it.

Your body is a temple and you shall not desecrate the temple.
key word here i think is body, i mean sure you could argue that god means something else then the physical body, or you could say that a piercing or tattoo is not a desecration. thats all human interpretation though and as humans we can argue that black is white as the saying goes.
the thing about the bible being a book is you cant really ask it to tell you what it means, you sort of have to decide that for yourself, my only caution to you would be that you should be careful of translating something in the way you want it. truly read the words and stop trying to rationalize it, then decide what it means in your heart. if theres a little voice there going "no! your wrong" you might consider listening to it.
that said jesus's focus was not on the law, as much as the importance of loving each other. this does not mean to completly ignore the law. but set your priorities straight.
finally the statment i feel most strongly about, as in i strongly disagree, is when people say " jesus will forgive all sin except for denying him" and implying that you can therefore ignore all law and do what you want because in the end, jesus will forgive you. this attitude is denying jesus, though it is true he will forgive you, if you go in and sin with that thought on your mind, you are denying him and his way.

Leviticus 19:28 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the lord. The lord Jesus came to save us and He will forgive any sin except denying him. If you have tattoos or piercing its OK. He will forgive you. Piercing and tattoos come from pagan worship.Egyptians had them. they also sacrificed baby's. We are to be Christ like. He did not have tattoos or piercings. What about the no marks on you part?

No, I can't give you a verse that says it's wrong. I knew a gentleman that came to church with pink hair and piercings & tattoos all over the place -- but loved the Lord and the congregation loved him. We desperately need to put this kind of thing aside and look at the person, not the ornamentation.

You may not like the verse found in Leviticus 19:28 but it is clearly a teaching command made by God for the people of God. It is just one command made in a long list of commands regarding the moral and ceremonial guidelines for his followers. God does not change the rules....man does! If it is concerning a ritual...please tell me what this ritual is? You must have some deep insight into the Hebrew scriptures that I can't read... here is the verses surrounding it...
26 ‘You shall not eat anything with the blood, nor shall you practice divination or soothsaying.
27 You shall not shave around the sides of your head, nor shall you disfigure the edges of your beard.
28 You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the LORD.
29 ‘Do not prostitute your daughter, to cause her to be a harlot, lest the land fall into harlotry, and the land become full of wickedness.
30 ‘You shall keep My Sabbaths and reverence My sanctuary: I am the LORD.
This is a list.... and tattoos are on the list.... you may not like his rules... but He made them and they are in His book.!

yes it is the bible of common sense if your parents are totally conservative and will disown you for getting a tattoo or pierced then you need to get your head out of your butt and decide that your parents are going to do a whole hell of a alot more for you and their relationship with you is far more important than a damn tattoo or piercing ,but if this is not an issue then there is no bible verse or reason for you not to do what ever you please to your body ortherwise some devout folowers could say you are not honoring your mother and father this is one of the ten commandents in the old testament dont know the verses and all that jazz, cause I do not own a bible
