overfatigue and/or dehydration
overuse
injury
muscle strain
remaining in same position
inadequate blood supply to the legs - Antherosclerosis
nerve compression in the spine - Lumbar Stenosis (compression of lower end of spinal canal) - pain stops when sitting or bending forward
potassium loss due to use of diuretics
excessive sweating - uncommon cause
One of the ways you can best get rid of the charlie horse, is to stretch the muscle that is cramping, or eat banana's (potassium)

It's a cramp. Most of the time it's from not enough potassium. Drink some orange juice and eat a banana every day and if that doesn't make them go away, you should talk to your doctor.

Lack of potassium. Eat bananas or you can go and get over the counter potassium vitamins. It should help.

Isn't that a funny name? ouch! I heard it's lack of iron & sometimes calcium. Drink plenty of fluids & chew a vitamin.
