Hi, we're 5 girls who would like to go to New York city for the Thanksgiving long week end. I know were a tad bit late on reserving an hotel for that particular week end. We're despirate to find the cheapest way to get there and the cheapest but nice and clean hotel. Can anyone help me??? Can you suggest any travelling sites? We're fine taking a plane, the train or even the bus.

there are a couple of websites below that should help you plan, but here's some personal advice from me, being a new yorker myself. I'm not sure where you guys are coming from, but the port authority bus terminal and the penn station (amtrak and nj transit) are right in the middle of the city. However if you take a plane, you will have to take the train (time waster) or a taxi which is like $40 or $50, plus the ny airports are REALLY slow with baggage.

As far as hotels, do some research and don't get one in midtown or times square. that's not the real ny, just what's on tv. try the upper west or east side, or maybe chelsea or the village if you find a good price. You can take subways and busses (the website is www.MTA.INFO not mta.org) everywhere and taxis if you're in a hurry so don't feel you have to pay big bucks to stay right in the middle of everything.

Definitely invest in somthing like a dinner cruise, boat ride, or helicopter ride which will let you see the skyline and some buildings and places you won't have time to go to in person. Also, go to either top of the rock (nbc building, rock center) or the empore state building to get a great view of nyc from the sky.

Whatever you do have lots of fun!!

Coming by train you'd get in at Penn Station. Some hotels near there are the Pennsylvania Hotel or the Howard Johnson New Yorker hotel, both of which are usually places you can still find last-minute rooms. I believe they are fairly affordable as well.

Super 8 Time Square Hotel Do some looking on www.tripadvisor.com. There you'll find reviews from people that have stayed at the hotels, so you get the real deal, not what the hotel wants you to hear.

Also, here's the NYC subway site. Tells you anything you need to know. WWW.MTA.ORG.

try KAYAK.COM too for hotels/airfare
