I teach English in South America and the books I use have that word every time I start a new Unit, and yes, it gives you a preview of the things you'll learn. I would translate it as: Introducción (with accent or "tilde" on the last "o") or Introduccion.

A SNAPshot is a photo that is taken taken rapidly, without much professional focussing or adjusting the camera.
To include this meaning in what you are saying, use: Una foto instantánea.

I believe you would just say "foto" I do not think there is a specific word for snapshot.

Saying " La foto" and " Las fotos" is sufficient. (Note the feminine " La" ).
