the best way to do is to enlist if you can't afford schooling first. When you enlist, you're guaranteed the job you choose and they train you for it. However, if you can afford the degree to become a nurse, do that first then join. The medical field is so needing of people, and you'll be automatically commisioned as an officer (more pay than an enlisted) and the usually have great benefits deals, like paying off your college loans for joining the military. Basic will be very easy since the nurse corp is non combattance (no physical fighting since nurses work in hospitals)! GOOD LUCK!

There are a couple of different routes that you can go. The first of which is the enlisted route which is risky. You can attempt to enlist (in the army at least, thats where my experience lies) as a 91W or combat medic and if your scores during AIT are high enough and if you do well enough during AIT you can qualify for the M6 skill identifier course which will put you through the army's version of LPN school.

The other route is the comissioned officer route (this would be my recomendation). However you must complete your BSN, which is your 4 year nursing degree. A standard RN is an ADN which is an associates degree or two year degree. The military will not accept this. With an associates degree you can enter the army with higher rank (e-4), but you can not practice as a nurse based up on this. Typically speaking a comissioned officer's contract is 6years long with 2 years inactive reserves following the 6years active duty or active reserves/guard.

Go through ROTC in college and get you BS in Nursing, then commission as a 2LT and serve a minimum of 4 years active duty as a nurse. There are also scholarships available through the various ROTC sources applicable to HS and in-college students.

Also, try to type a wee-bit slower...

Go to nursing school, your second year apply to the service of your choice, many will pay for you to finish school and you serve 6 years after graduation.

Good luck with that.

Go to school, get your nursing degree and enlist as an officer. Otherwise they have you and you have no control over where you go or what you do.
