I am a Protestant who went to Catholic school. I respect the wonderful education I received, and I respect the right of others to choose the way they want to worship. I have had many Catholic friends, and there have been two types from my experience. The first type are wonderful people who believe in helping others, and live the way God tells us to. Some of the others seem to have no knowledge of the Holy Spirit. They live as they please, (feeling guilty the whole time) then confess to a priest, just to do it all over again. I was married to a Catholic, and it was very hard for me to get across the concept to him that God is a loving god, not a god that wants you to feel guilty, and that Jesus bore all our sins on the cross- something that should make us feel joyous, not guilty. Also, the Catholic church makes the Pope, all the way down to the priests, too important to the point that they seem stand between a person and God. So many rules that come from nowhere. That, along with the rituals and the recited praying, make it seem like God is very far away. While many of the recited prayers are wonderful, if something is too rote or routine, people aren't thinking about what it really means. I feel it is important for people to commune with God in their own words. This is what I have seen, and is only my opinion. I know that Catholics are Christians too, and however a person can feel close to God is what they should choose. People should know that it is definitely not the tooth fairy on the cross, it is the Christ who died for our sins. I know what some denominations think, but this does not offend me.
Just a word- for people who don't think Catholics are Christians- Mel Gibson is Catholic, and he is a Christian without a doubt, or he never could have been given the vision of making "Passion of the Christ," a true masterpiece, annointed by God.

Catholics have totally ruined Christianity for the past 1,700 years. They have been the most violent and hateful denomination of Christianity, and many don't consider them Christian because their actions directly go against scripture. Furthermore, all that stuff you people do in Mass aside from communion is not outlined in the Bible at all. It was developed over centuries as a mechanism to collect money and control a suffering populace.
I certainly don't think ANYONE who makes comments about Muslims they way your pope did is a Christian.

The idea that Catholics aren't Christian is one that sort of floats around Protestant churches ... some of us (hopefully the majority) don't believe that, but some do. I knew a girl who was raised as a Catholic and then converted to Protestant. She tried to convince me that the Catholic church was a Satanic cult, but no, that's totally ridiculous. Faith in Jesus Christ is what makes you a Christian, and there's people of God in all the denominations.
And I should also add that I have visited a Catholic church a few times and liked it -- it wasn't exactly for me, but it's undoubtedly Christian.

These are the same folks to do not realize that the Bible is a CATHOLIC book! (where did the Bible come from?)
You have to admit, most Catholics are poor apologists.
Here's a challenge to anyone who belives that Catholics are not Christian or do not regard the Bible:
Prove one Catholic doctrine unscriptural!
If you can do this, any Catholic should be willing to renouce his faith!

To be saved means being born again by the holy spirit. Some, not all catholics believe if you baptize a baby it saves them. Not true.Baptism does not save you. You are saved by faith not by works or baptism. There are lost and saved in almost all christian denominations.Religion will not save you. religion is a slick road to hell. It is a grave with both ends knocked out.read the book of Romans and then evaluate your life to see if you are truly born again, Jesus saved.

I agree, there are a lot of different kinds of christians. Many people I know who refer themselves as Christians are born again - which most catholics are not though.

My mother-in-law is one of them. They CHOOSE to believe that without actually seeing what it is truly about. The Disciple Peter is the one who started the Catholic church. I think many people became disenchanted with Catholics due to some of the dark areas of our past. There have been some bad Catholics. A reminder though... there have been bad Baptists, bad Lutherans, and bad Jews. You can find a bad seed in every crop.

Catholicism has skewed from Christianity. Catholics today believe a whole bunch of stuff that is not Biblical. That's why most of the Christian Church doesn't accept Catholicism as part of the Church.

Catholics are Christian. Some of their ways of getting to Jesus/God are a little unconventional, and non-Biblical, but that doesn't mean that in essence, they are not Christians. They still believe that Jesus was God's Son and died on a Cross for their sins.

Of course Catholics are Christians but a lot of people put us down because most of us know NOTHING about the Bible itself and we tend to praise Mary and the saints more than Jesus, not to mention the hundreds of allegations of children who were molested by priests.
