My microwave has shown no signs of slowing down or wearing out and has been wonderful until the other day. I went to use it and and set the time and it just would not nuke the food as if the door was open but yet you could see the seconds counting down and all the clocks lights worked. So I made sure there was nothing in the door and door crevices and shut it harder and it worked fine. Then I go to use it later and it does the same thing except shutting it harder and making sure the door and jams were clean did not work this time and you could still see the seconds counting down.

I do not want to buy a new one but am willing to. I refuse to pay someone to fix it because it is more cost effective to buy a new one. Is there anyway I can easily fix it with some simple part? If not I will go buy a new one. Thanks

Yes you can do anything and I am sure you are smart enough to be be careful with dangerous high voltage parts inside.

I would just open it up and look for anything wrong or off. Maybe clean it out a bit.

Sometimes fixing things yourself can save you tons of money.

You could fix it if it is the high voltage fuse - but the reason that the fuse blew would still be there. (You should not ever open the case if you do not have experience with high voltage power supplies and the like.) The door safety switch that cuts off microwave tube is the likely culprit in your case and they are hard to find. If your "door slamming" has cooked the microwave tube, they cost almost as much as a new microwave.
Best to just do some research on the best new unit for your purposes and chuck the old one! Much safer too!
Maybe your community accepts electronic waste for recycling?? I would hope so but ours does not.

It may have a bad connection, since you could slam the door, thus jarring a loose connection.
Heating things up results in water vapor.
Water can corrode contacts, etc.
Open it up and clean it up. Check connections, wiggle wires, look for anything amiss.
Do not operate it unless it is back together and has a load in the oven compartment.

Sure but its cheaper to replace it.Parts cost more than a new microwave,Price the glass plate not to mention a new xformer or magnetron, and forget a new door(huge bucks)

I wouldn't gut it and expect it to be like new. Go ahead and spend 70 bucks and get a new hot dog warmer! A repair shop wiill cost about as much. They're like VCR's -- disposable.
