I am 14 and home schooled.I go to art class once a week, and I have a best friend,so we have sleepovers about 2 times a month, and I was wondering how other home schoolers socialize, like sports, activities, next door neighbors, etc.I just want to prove that we home schoolers do socialize with real people.thanks!

I appreciate everyones help, but I was actually wondering how OTHER home schoolers socialize,I'm good with socializing.I live to far from town to really do any of the things you all are suggesting, with gas high it dosen't help.I also have 3 other friends, but they're just friends not BFFs.I am sorry that I wrote my question wrong,SORRY.

The dreaded socialization questions! So many think that because we home school we never leave the house! We do so much away from the house too!
-sleepovers
-playdates
-library & storytimes
-church
-community gatherings and clubs
-parks
-zoos
-museums
-dance and gymnastics
Just to name a few!
We even have a home school group that meets regularly for even more group activities!

Hey, you can always go to the movies, go skating and even try out some dance classes to meet new faces. You gotta look at the situation you are in, the access to socializm such as the internet, neighborhood, town, exc. to find what you need to do to change and grow. Home-schoolers are just as interesting, attractive, and intelligent as public schoolers. Be thankful you don't have to put up with the stress of a high school and you now can grow without bad advice and irresponsibe would be friends dragging you down. Choose your friends wisely and don't ever think cause you learn at home makes you less of a person.

Well, I being homeschooled am an expert on how I socialize. Sleepovers are a lot of fun, but when do you finish school in the day? I like going bowling and playing soccer inviting a bunch of friends over for games, going to the movies, chatting online, going to the park, zoo and on walks. Unfortunately sports are quite limited for homeschoolers. I don't play sports anymore because I am too old to play the only community sport we have, soccer. I was taking fencing(sword fighting) for a while but then my coach moved away. Have fun!!!

This is what we do:
4H -- horse clubs, dog training clubs, County fair, State fair, weekend events.
Equestrian team -- meetings every month, barn cleaning, riding horses in the arena with other people.
Ultimate Frisbee -- every week. (This is a team sport)
Group choir. Violin lessons, voice lessons, piano lessons.
Invite friends to come to our house. Go to friends houses.
Swimming, trampoline jumping.
Helping others replace the roof on their house. Work on cars.
Buy stuff, sell stuff.
Church on Sundays.
Jobs: Housecleaning, piano teaching, berry picking, and more...
Weekend camp ministries, Summer camp ministries.
Birthday parties. Weddings. Anniversaries. Family reunions.
Going to the beach.
Snowboarding.
Rollerskating.
Little League baseball.
Bowling.
Going out to restaurants.
Telephone. Cell phones. Email. Myspace. IM.
Gee. Do you ever wonder if people that don't understand homeschooling really think that we don't have a life?

Participate in a sport. Attend home school outings, like trips specifically designed for homeschooled kids. Volunteer at a local elementary school or some place like that, they always need help. Join study groups. If your parent will allow you to work part-time try that. I know it can be hard, but you have to be creative.
If you are privately homeschooled, you more than likely cannot participate in public school functions as an enrolled student would, but if your homeschool is connected to one of the public schools, you are usually attached to the school within your attendance area.

My daughter hangs out with several other homeschoolers in our area. She still has her friends from the neighborhood that attend public school as well. She takes sketching classes, drums, tae kwan do and has become active in local theatre. Her favorite way to hang with her friends involves my kitchen, a cookie recipe, laughter and a big mess! She also has sleepovers and we invite her friends along with us when we go to museums, shopping or resteraunts. She has a more active social life now than when she was in school and is far happier! Sounds to me like you know what she means!!

I....
- play traveling soccer and am really close to my team. We have parties, sleepovers, the whole deal.
- act a local theater and have many friends there.
- am a Girl Scout and go to Girl Scout meetings, camps, outings, ect.
- joined a winter swim team but it hasn't started yet.
- am on a swim team during the summer which my best friends belong to.
- have sleepovers and parties with my friends all the time.
- may be joining a yoga class.
I have more time to do all of these activities because school doesn't take me as long as public/private school.

Pink, I admire you. Don't people like Steve crack you up? You know those people who are so 'needy' that they cannot appreciate simplicity and have to have something going all the time? The kind that has to act a certain way in order to fit in with the clique in order to be happy? LOL... You are sooo much more mature than that.
My children (8 and 12) go to parks, gymnastics, friends, science class 6 hours once weekly, beach, etc. We have a great time.
